Raised in the Mid-West, trained in California, and currently living in New York City, Carlyn Schlechter has built a career telling stories through color, image and type. Her design work is rooted in immersion, open dialogue, and discipline with a focus mainly in print and visual branding.

Carlyn has worked at Landor Associates, Iridium Group, Interbrand and most recently, as Associate Creative Director at Darcy Miller Designs. Her past clients include Adidas, AT&T, Avon, 14th Street Y, Denon & Marantz, The Nature Conservancy, 'witchcraft, and Xerox. After Interbrand, Carlyn went on to co-found Maypole, a design studio with a unique product line of bespoke décor and stationery goods available in numerous stores and online. 

Carlyn has received awards for design in Print Magazine, as well as the German Design Award (CSC). She has been a Guest Lecturer at Washington University in St. Louis, School of Art. 

Having recently graduated from the School of Visual Arts with a Masters Degree in Art and Museum Education, Carlyn is now focused on teaching a new generation of learners. She completed an internship at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Family and Teen Education, where she has now returned, working as an Assistant Educator. Carlyn is also thrilled to be working in Education at The Jewish Museum, as well as assisting and substituting visual arts classes at Friends Seminary. With design and art history as the foundation, Carlyn encourages students to work with a growth mindset and emphasizes process and collaboration.

Carlyn is a passionate letter writer, lover of wallpaper, and is devoted to licorice. She lives in Greenwich Village and in her spare time is raising a husband and two spectacular daughters.
